Polka Dot Rabbit was launched in 2007 by Cate Lawrence. Cate strive to reclaim materials and once loved objects and recraft them into goodies which can be loved all over again...
Favoured materials are sourced from various second hand suppliers, charity shops, discarded clothing and textiles, childrens toys and books and various household objects including tea cups and cake decorating fancies. You may have seen Polka Dot Rabbit products featured in various publications including Frankie magazine, The Vine and Michi Girl.
Polka Dot Rabbit consigns to various shops around Melbourne and also participates in craft markets. You may have seen Polka Dot Rabbit stalls at Section 8 Craft Cartel, Stafford Street Warehouse Parties, Winterfest, Forepaw, Ceres or the Melbourne Social Forum.
Polka Dot Rabbit released a 2008 political colouring book to coincide with the 2008 Federal election in conjunction with Chris Chinchilla of Chinchilla Media. Cate and Chris have run several successful events where live music and crafting coincide under the Antescene monkier.
Cate is passionate about mental health and writes about her own experiences in her blog. She was the successful recipient of a Community Support grant by the City of Melbourne to run crafting workshops this year called 'Craftea Chat' in conjunction with VMIAC in 2008 for women experiencing mental health issues. Sh hopes to set up a 'not for profit' Cratea Chat to extend the workshops, support and social resources into something ongoing and sustainable. Cate also established Paddy Wagon in 2008, a pad making mission in the melbourne craft community, to create cloth sanitary pads for women in Africa.
